Armenian Grammar

The Armenian grammar allows you to manipulate the vocabulary to obtain multiple forms of a word. The grammatical rules below are the most important in Armenian and help connect words or shape the structure. We start with the prepositions:

And: և  [yev]	Under: տակ  [tak]
Before: առաջ  [arraj]	After: հետո  [heto]
Inside: ներսում  [nersum]	Outside: դրսում  [drsum]
With: հետ  [het]	But: բայց  [bayts']
For: համար  [hamar]	From: -ից  [- Its']
To: դեպի  [depi]	In: մեջ  [mej]

Questions and Adverbs

To ask questions, use the following:

What?: Ինչ?  [Inch'?]	Who?: Ով?  [Ov?]
How?: Ինչպես?  [Inch'pes?]	Why?: Ինչու?  [Inch'u?]
Where?: Որտեղ?  [Vortegh?]

Some of the most important time adverbs:

Never: երբեք  [yerbek']	Rarely: հազվադեպ  [hazvadep]
Sometimes: երբեմն  [yerbemn]	Usually: սովորաբար  [sovorabar]
Always: միշտ  [misht]	Very: շատ  [shat]

Most commonly used pronouns in Armenian:

I: ես  [yes]	You: Դուք  [Duk']
He: նա  [na]	She: նա  [na]
We: մենք  [menk']	They: նրանք  [nrank']

To express the possession of something [possessive form]:

My: իմ  [im]	Your: Ձեր  [Dzer]
His: նրա  [nra]	Her: նրա  [nra]
Our: մեր  [mer]	Their: նրանց  [nrants']

Grammar in a sentence

Some random verbs to show how it's being used:

I speak English: Ես խոսում եմ անգլերեն:  [Yes khosum yem angleren.]

You speak French: Դուք խոսում եք ֆրանսերեն:  [Duk' khosum yek' franseren]

He speaks German: Նա խոսում է գերմաներեն:  [Na khosum e germaneren]

She speaks Italian: Նա խոսում է իտալերեն:  [Na khosum e italeren]

I visited France: Ես Ֆրանսիա այցելեցի:  [Yes Fransia ayts'yelets'i]

I will drink milk: Ես կաթ կխմեմ:  [Yes kat' kkhmem]

Some extra grammatical structures:

I understand you: Ես հասկանում եմ Ձեզ:  [Yes haskanum yem Dzez]

I don't understand you: Ես Ձեզ չեմ հասկանում:  [Yes Dzez ch'yem haskanum]

I don't speak French: Ես ֆրանսերեն չեմ խոսում:  [Yes franseren ch'yem khosum]

This is my house: Սա իմ տունն է:  [Sa im tunn e]

That restaurant is far: Այդ ճաշարանը հեռու է:  [Ayd chasharany herru e]

No problem: Ոչ մի խնդիր:  [Voch' mi khndir]
