Urdu Grammar

The Urdu grammar allows you to manipulate the vocabulary to obtain multiple forms of a word. The grammatical rules below are the most important in Urdu and help connect words or shape the structure. We start with the prepositions:

And: اور	Under: کے نیچے
Before: پہلے	After: کے بعد
Inside: اندر	Outside: باہر
With: کے ساتھ	But: مگر، لیکن
For: بابت، برائے	From: سے
To: کو	In: میں

Questions and Adverbs

To ask questions, use the following:

What?: کیا؟	Who?: کون؟
How?: کس طرح؟	Why?: کیوں؟
Where?: کہاں ؟

Some of the most important time adverbs:

Never: کبھی نہیں	Rarely: شاز و نادر
Sometimes: کبھی کبھی	Usually: عموماً
Always: ہمیشہ	Very: زیادہ

Most commonly used pronouns in Urdu:

I: میں	You: تو، تم، آپ
He: وہ(مرد)	She: وہ(عورت)
We: ہم	They: وہ(جمع)

To express the possession of something [possessive form]:

My: میرا	Your: تیرا، تمہارا، آپ کا
His: ان کا	Her: ان کی
Our: ہمارا	Their: ان کا (جمع)

Grammar in a sentence

Some random verbs to show how it's being used:

I speak English: میں انگریزی بولتا ہوں

You speak French: آپ فرانسیسی بولتے ہیں

He speaks German: وہ جرمن بولتا ہے

She speaks Italian: وہ اطالوی بولتی ہے

I visited France: میں نے فرانس کا دورہ کیا

I will drink milk: میں دودھ پیونگا

Some extra grammatical structures:

I understand you: میں تمہاری بات سمجھ رہا ہوں

I don't understand you: مجھے آپ کی بات سمجھ نہیں آ رہی ہے

I don't speak French: میں فرانسیسی نہیں بولتا.

This is my house: یہ میرا گھر ہے

That restaurant is far: یہ ریستوران دور ہے

No problem: کوئی مسئلہ نہیں
